Cinder Cone

On our way back to California we stopped to hike this Cinder Cone. We hike a lot during the summer and this was by far the hardest hike we have ever done!

The kids loved being able to see and feel the volcanic rocks.

For every step up, your foot slid half way back down. This was such a hard climb! The kids did great! Zander complained at first but after we told him the faster we got the to the top the soon it was over, he took off running up. That's him way up there while Connor and Ellie take a break. (Madison is trying to catch up to him)

at the top, you could then walk down into the bottom of the cone. Three of the kids did that with Tim.

not much grows at the top of a cinder cone

The lava flow cut off this lake. It use to be one huge lake now its 2 lakes. The kids loved being able to see from the top where the lava flowed.
