Back to Africa
In 2008 Heart of the Bride started a business development project called Back to Africa whereby hand-made jewelry was purchased from Africa and shipped back to the United States to sell in various venues. Our partners lived in extreme poverty before they began creating Back to Africa Jewelry. Today, thanks to the purchasers of our products, these same people are now able to consistently feed and clothe their children, send them to school, purchase other resources like farm animals and help their family and neighbors who are not as fortunate. As of December 2012, our artisans report to us that the project is benefitting over 400 people. We wanted to give back to a cause that was important to us, that we could make a tangible contribution to, and that was based locally in Tennessee. Amazima was the perfect fit for BANDED™. Re:New Project
Happily made in the USA, each product is masterfully handcrafted using recycled textiles by a Re:new artisan. Our artisans are courageous refugee women from across the globe who have been resettled in America. Adjusting to life in America as a refugee is complex. There are many pieces to the puzzle of resettlement. One of the largest pieces is employment for women. Some refugees are considered unemployable due to language barriers and lack of transferable skills. Other women with school-age children find it difficult to acquire flexible working hours. Re:new is providing a solution .In the last three years, over 120 refugee women have received training or employment at Re:new. Employment allows Re:new artisans to provide for their families while enjoying a flexible working environment. Many of our artisans are the sole employee of their household, some supporting between seven and ten family members.

Starfish Project
STARFISH PROJECT WAS ESTABLISHED IN 2006 TO EMPOWER EXPLOITED WOMEN IN ASIA.
The Project developed a socially responsible jewelry business in order to provide women with alternative employment and a range of holistic care services. Starfish Project provides opportunities for women to heal and grow through counseling, vocational training, language acquisition, family education grants and health care access, as well as providing housing in our women’s shelter. As of 2013, the Project had grown to support approximately 50 women, primarily through the jewelry company where women have taken on new levels of responsibility and leadership, and are able to provide for their families through meaningful employment.

The end of the year is a big time for giving to charities for tax purposes. Here are a few that I have personally visited or know the people running them and I KNOW that the money is being spent wisely to serve and love on others. There are lots and lots of charities that are great but here are a few of my favorites.
Amazima-LOVE what they do in Uganda to try to help families
Ekisa-
The girls that run this place are awesome! It is a children s home for special needs children. They are doing so much to care for these children, love them, help educate the community on special needs, and they employ locals, and try to help families to care for their special needs child instead of giving them up.Mercy for Mamas-
An average of 20 women die EVERYDAY in Uganda from pregnancy complications. This is not ok! This is why some children are abandoned. Mercy for Mamas is working to stop this from happening. They provide mama kits to expecting women. Each kit is an all in one kit that contains everything needed to help provide a clean and safe delivery. Only $7 can allow a woman to give birth in a hospital or clinic. (In many clinics in Uganda they must purchase all of the necessary supplies and bring them with them) Read more on their website. Ok, Shelly and her husband are just about awesome! They love and serve the children of Uganda. They recently moved to Uganda to serve there full time. SixtyFeet was started when it was discoverd that children (yes children) were in prison. Young children. Children who were simply unwanted, or stole food because they were hungry....I could go on and on but check out their website and their story...please.
